Fresh off the midterm elections last month, new Missouri Congress members Republicans Vicky Hartzler and Billy Long have been assigned to committees dealing with defense, agriculture and transportation issues.
Hartzler defeated longtime Democratic Rep. Ike Skelton, who was chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. During the campaign, incoming Speaker John Boehner pledged to support Hartzler for a seat on that committee, if she won.
Hartzler was assigned to what she called her "no. 1 & 2 choices" in a tweet earlier today, the House Armed Services Committee and the Agriculture Committee.
Long was elected to succeed Republican Rep. Roy Blunt, who won election to the Senate. Long said Thursday he has been assigned to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Committee on Homeland Security.
