St. Louis County Police and local law enforcement are launching an aggressive "Click it or Ticket" enforcement today to get more motorists to wear seat belts.
Police will be pulling over drivers in municipalities that have a primary safety belt ordinance, which means that police can stop vehicles with unbuckled drivers or passengers.
Scott Roach, a St. Louis County Police Officer, says the mobilization is a way of reminding motorists that it's a violation of the law to not wear a seat belt and drivers will be pulled over.
Roach also said that St. Louisans are still not wearing their seat belts. According to Roach:
- The National average in 2010 was 85 percent usage.
- In Missouri, the 2010 usage was 76 percent.
- St. Louis County, the average was 72 percent.
- And it's even worse for teenagers, - only 66 percent.
So, which municipalities are participating in the mobilization?
Ballwin, Brentwood, Chesterfield, Creve Coeur, Webster Groves and unincorporated St. Louis County.
