- Two U.S. marshals and one St. Louis police officer were shot while attempting to make an arrest in the 3100 block of Osage in south St. Louis City. St. Louis police have confirmed that the suspect has died following a stand-off that began shortly before 7 a.m. The 2 marshals were taken to St. Louis University hospital where one is in critical condition and one is in fair condition, according to a hospital spokesperson. The St. Louis police officer was hit in the vest and suffered a graze wound. The officer was taken to Barnes-Jewish hospital.
- According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis City election officials are anticipating low voter turnout in today’s aldermanic elections. Gary Stoff, Republican deputy director at the city Board of Election Commissioners says it’s not unusual to see a downturn after relatively heated campaigns, like the election last November. But says it’s a disappointment. Half of the city’s 28 aldermen are on the ballot-but only four races are contested in today’s primary. Polls are open until 7 p.m.
- The Missouri Senate is preparing to debate legislation repealing some provisions of a dog-breeding law passed last November by voters. Senate Majority Leader Tom Dempsey said the measure would be brought up for debate Tuesday, but it's not clear if the Senate will be able to come to a vote. Dempsey, a Republican from St. Charles, is among those who want to keep the heart of the voter-approved law intact. But some rural lawmakers want to reverse many of the key provisions. The Senate bill would do away with a 50-dog limit for breeders. It also would roll back some of the new law's provisions about the water bowls, pens and outdoor exercise areas that must be provided for dogs.
