A former St. Louis alderman who was recalled from office in 2005 over his support for controversial development projects in his south city ward seems poised to take his old seat back in April.
Tom Bauer defeated the current 24th Ward incumbent, Bill Waterhouse, by 12 votes: 437 to 425. Two other candidates split the remaining votes. Bauer will face an independent candidate in April by the name of Scott Ogilvie.
The three other incumbents facing primary challenges all won. Some of them will face opposition in the general election in April.
Turnout in the city was anemic, with less than seven percent of the city's 194,000 registered voters casting a ballot.
The board president and aldermen in even wards are up for election this year.
As of 10:15 p.m., with all of the city's 203 precincts reporting, here are the unofficial results in those four contests from the St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners: (winners in bold)
