Martin Family Files Suit Against August Busch IV

A wrongful-death lawsuit filed against former Anheuser-Busch CEO August Busch IV over the drug overdose death of his girlfriend has set off a squabble within her family. The lawsuit filed Thursday accuses Busch of carelessness and negligence in the December death of 27-year-old Adrienne Martin at Busch's estate. It seeks unspecified damages for her 8-year-old son.

An autopsy identified an accidental oxycodone overdose as Martin's cause of death, though it showed she also had cocaine in her system.

Busch's attorney says his client denies liability. The child's father, Dr. Kevin Martin, is a plaintiff on his son's behalf. But Martin's mother told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that she plans to intervene because she fears the friendship between Busch and Martin could affect the outcome of the suit.

WTO Rules Boeing Subsidies Improper

According to the St. Louis Business Journal, a World Trade Organization panel has found that Boeing Company received $5.3 billion in improper state and federal government subsidies to develop the 787 Dreamliner. The WTO ruling says the subsidies gave Boeing an unfair advantage over its competitor Airbus, which is the commercial aircraft division of the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Co.

Cape Girardeau Breaks Ground on Isle of Capri Casino

Work has officially begun on Missouri's newest casino. Cape Girardeau city leaders and Isle of Capri Casino executives broke ground Thursday on the $125 million project on the city's riverfront district. Officials  say that the new casino will generate 450 new jobs. Isle of Capri's president and CEO Virginia McDowell says that the casino will attract visitors from a six state region.

"This was probably the best and last underserved market in Missouri," said McDowell. "So to us it became very obvious that this was the place to be."

Cape Girardeau was awarded the state's 13th gaming license last year. The city's voters approved a ballot initiative that allowed gaming in November. The community will vote next Tuesday on an initiative that would ban smoking in all indoor workplaces, including casinos.
