Green Sales Tax Holiday Begins in Missouri

The Third Annual Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday begins today and runs through April 25. Those wishing to purchase new Energy Star-qualified appliances in Missouri during the holiday will save at least 4.225 percent off the purchase, representing the elimination of the state's sales tax from the purchase, according to the Missouri Department of Revenue.

In addition to the statewide tax holiday, a number of local governmental entities have also opted to participate - exempting some purchases in those areas from not only the state sales tax but also, city, county and special district sales taxes.

Motive in Killing of 72-year-old Immigrant in St. Louis Unclear

The beating death in St. Louis of a 72-year-old immigrant from Vietnam has left friends and family stunned, and police searching for the killers.

Hoang Nguyen died Saturday. He was beaten to death by a group of four people - two young men and two young women - as he and his wife, Yen, walked home through an alley after going to a Vietnamese market.

Yen was also punched in the face and suffered a fractured eye socket. She told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that she and her husband did not know the attackers.

The motive is unclear. They were not robbed.

Police hope a surveillance video leads them to the killers.
