Lambert Airport officials say it could take up to a year to repair all of the damage inflicted by the Good Friday tornado. The twister blew out windows and tore part of the roof off of the C Concourse. The concourse has been closed off since the night of the tornado, with gates and waiting areas moved to the D Concourse, which had been closed previously.
Speaking to airport commissioners today, airport director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge said replacement of the roof and restoration of the C Concourse is planned and could take between nine and 12 months. The cost of the repairs has not been estimated yet. The airport is working with its insurance carrier to determine the full damage estimate. They hope to have a report by the end of the month.
Hamm-Niebruegge also said the majority of the original 1956 floor-to-ceiling windows in Terminal 1 were broken during the storm. She said it will likely take four to six months to replace them. The windows are currently boarded up.
