A new study has found that the city of St. Louis’ various agencies and officials need to work together more closely in order to cut down on crime and make the city a safer place to live.
A team of IBM consultants spent three weeks in St. Louis this spring studying the use of data and technology in the city’s various law enforcement agencies. St. Louis was awarded a grant by IBM as part of the technology firm's "Smarter Cities" program.
One of the recommendations focused on better communications between Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce’s office and judges about dangerous offenders.
"We kind of had a renewed focus on, hey we really need to make sure that this information is collected to the fullest extent from the police and from the community and that it is conveyed completely and in a usable form to the judges who are making sentencing decisions," Joyce said at a press conference today outlining the report's findings.
Mayor Francis Slay says no additional funding will be necessary to implement IBM’s many recommendations.
