The Missouri Department of Transportation has canceled some lane closures on the Poplar Street Bridge this weekend.

All lanes on the Poplar Street Bridge will be open this weekend, though the department will still close the I-55 northbound exit ramp from 11 p.m. Saturday until noon Sunday.

Some of the work can't be done in the predicted rainy weather, says MoDOT spokeswoman Kara Price, though she says crews may also have taken into consideration the numerous events at downtown venues this weekend.

Two westbound lanes on the bridge were scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. Friday until early Monday morning.

MoDOT today also announced restrictions on trucks traveling near the Edward Jones Dome on Saturday.  Trucks more than 24 feet in length will not be allowed to take the ramp from eastbound I-70 onto Broadway (exit 249C) between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. Price says the Missouri State Highway Patrol, St. Louis police, the Rams and the city made the decision for public safety. She's urging motorists to use alternate routes to avoid traffic backups.

Other work zones in the area this weekend include:

  • Ramp closures on I-64 downtown between 11 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday to accommodate the Moonlight Ramble;
  • Overnight lane closures at I-170 near Delmar;
  • Various lane closures at the I-270/I-44 interchange as crews finish striping the lanes to their original configuration. The work should be completed by 10 p.m. Sunday.

MetroLink today also announced modified service schedules to allow for upgrades the light rail track system east of the Eads Bridge. The changes will run through early October, and start at either 8 p.m. or midnight.

  • Blue Line trains (those that start in Shrewsbury) will only run to the Civic Center/Scottrade MetroLink stop.
  • Blue Line passengers who need to access stops east of the Civic Center will have to switch to a Red Line train at the Civic Center stop.
  • Passengers who would usually take the Blue Line west from Fairview Heights will need to ride the Red Line to the Civic Center stop and pick up the Blue Line trains there.
  • Passengers who commute using only the Red Line will not be affected.

Metro says the changes will add about 10 minutes to the average commute. Regular service will resume at the beginning of service on weekdays (around 4:30 a.m.) and at 8 a.m. on the weekends, and the changes could be canceled depending on special events or weather.
