A 14-year-old girl from the St. Louis County town of Jennings is in critical condition after being shot in the face while walking home from junior high school.
Police say someone fired shots Monday afternoon from a SUV, striking the girl, who was walking with friends.
The St. Louis County Police Department announced Tuesday that "charges have now been filed against Jared M. Britton, 23, of Jennings for one count of Discharge/Shoot Firearm At A Motor Vehicle. Britton is currently being held on a $50,000 bond."
A release from the Police Department alleges that Britton shot back at the SUV following the initial shots.
St. Louis County police say the girl was an innocent bystander. Her name has not been released.
