"Puma" will be back for another season.
The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that Lance Berkman has signed a one-year contract extension with the club. The team did not announce any more details, but other reports say the deal is for $12 million. Berkman made $8 million this season.
The 35-year-old Berkman, who spent most of his career with Houston, is among National League leaders in home runs, slugging percentage and batting average. He was a starter in this year's All-Star Game.
"Lance proved to be everything we were looking for when we signed him last December," said general manager John Mozeliak in a statement. "He's an impact player who helped solidify our everyday lineup while also bringing a wealth of experience to our team. We are excited to announce that he is going to remain a part of our team in 2012."
