The Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor Millstone Bangert Inc. will permanently close the exit ramp 249A from eastbound Interstate 70 to 10th Street in St. Louis City at  9  a.m. October 10, 2011.

The ramp will be removed permanently so crews can construct roadway and ramps between I-70 and the new Mississippi River Bridge. The new ramps to the bridge will cross directly over the current location of the 10th Street exit ramps.

Drivers can use Broadway exit 250A to get into the city.

Several roadways on the west side of the interstate will also close as part of construction.

9th Street and 10th Street north of Cass Avenue will become two-way to ensure traffic can get to businesses on those roadways.

In addition, MoDOT plans to close all lanes of I-70, in both directions, between 10th Street and the Poplar Street Bridge at 8 p.m. Friday October 7. The interstate will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, October 10.

Crews will also close the I-70 express lanes for two months as part of construction.

Drivers should use I-64 and I-70 to detour around the closure.

Mississippi River Bridge officials encourage avoiding the location during the closure, if possible.
