Be prepared for extra security at Busch Stadium tonight
If you're going to Game One of the World Series tonight, expect it to take a little longer to get into Busch Stadium. In addition to added security due to the importance of the game, First Lady Michele Obama and Vice President Joe Biden's wife, Dr. Jill Biden, will be in attendance.
St. Louis Police Chief Dan Isom says the department is coordinating security with the Secret Service and it will be a challenge.
"The good thing is we've done this many times before, whether it be a World Series or All-Star Game, Super Bowl, we have a variety of different events in the city of St. Louis that require us to deploy a lot of resources, so it's something that we're comfortable with doing," Isom said.
Major League Baseball says stadium security will follow TSA airport guidelines, so fans should not bring anything that they wouldn't take on an airplane.
Busch Stadium gates will open early - at 4 p.m. - to try to alleviate long lines.
Ag Department issue drought disaster designation for most of Missouri
The U.S. Agriculture Department has issued a drought disaster designation for farmers in almost all of Missouri's 114 counties because of the hot, dry summer. Gov. Jay Nixon said Tuesday the designation means farmers who lost crops and property to the extreme heat and drought from July 1 to Aug. 30 may seek assistance from USDA's Farm Service Agency.
Nixon notes the harsh summer conditions reduced crop yields, damaged pastures and dried up ponds and creeks. The designation covers 111 counties and the city of St. Louis.
The only counties not included are Atchison and Holt in the northwest, and Mississippi in the Bootheel - all of which were swamped by prolonged flooding on the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.
KC police get warrant to again search home of missing baby
Kansas City police say they have a warrant to again search a house from where a mother and father say their baby was abducted two weeks ago. Police Capt. Steve Young says officers will enter the home Wednesday.
Lisa Irwin was 10 months old Oct. 4 when her parents reported her missing. Father Jeremy Irwin says he returned home from a late shift to discover the lights on, a window tampered with, the front door unlocked and Lisa gone. The baby's mother, Deborah Bradley, was asleep elsewhere in the house.
Bradley says she had been drinking heavily that night. Young says the family can't return to the house until the search is over. He said Tuesday that the parents haven't sat down face-to-face with investigators since Oct. 8.
