A friendly reminder to St. Charles drivers - overnight lane closures will start on the Blanchette Bridge tonight.
The closures are needed in preparation for the major rehabilitation of the bridge's westbound span, which is expected to start in 2012. The current work will move utilities from the westbound bridge to the eastbound lanes.
Here are the closure listings:
- From Monday to Thursday (Jan. 9-12), one lane on eastbound 70 will close at 8 p.m. and re-open at 5 a.m.
- A second eastbound lane, as well as both of the Fifth St. ramps to eastbound I-70 will close at 9 p.m., also re-opening at 5 a.m.
- Similar closures could take place each week, weather permitting, until late March
Motorists who need to get on eastbound I-70 from St. Charles will be detoured to Veterans Parkway west to the Route 94/First Capitol Drive interchange.
