Update: 7:10: A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 11 a.m for the St. Louis metropolitan area.
Update 6:36: A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Bond, Western Fayette, Southern Macoupin, Eastern Madison and Montgomery counties in Illinois’ and northwestern Lincoln, Montgomery and southwestern Pike County in Missouri until 7:15.
The severe thunderstorm warning for St. Louis City, northeastern St. Louis and northeastern St. Charles counties is cancelled.
Update 5:15 a.m: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the St. Louis Public Radio listening area until 6 a.m. Large and destructive hail remain the main threat.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the St. Louis Public Radio listening area until 7 a.m.
The National Weather Service says a few of the storms may be severe with the main threat being large and destructive hail up to the size of tennis balls. The storms are expected to move east at 60 mph across the St. Louis metro area between 5:30 and 6:30.
