The St. Louis Division of Corrections has hired an acting commissioner, a job that has potential for permanence - that is, if the preceding commissioner is not successful in appealing his termination.
Last year, former commissioner Gene Stubblefield was placed on forced leave after a series of jail breaks. The Civil Service Commission has yet to rule on Stubblefield’s appeal of his termination. If the termination is upheld, the newly-named acting commissioner Dale Glass would be required to go through a competitive process to win a permanent appointment.
Glass most recently worked at the Missouri Department of Corrections as the deputy warden. He retired in 2009 after a 28-year career in state-level corrections.
“He has strong leadership skills and engenders enthusiasm and competence in his subordinates,” George Lombardi, Director of the Missouri Department of Corrections, said in a statement today.
Glass will oversee 450 employees and 1,900 inmates.
