Illinois officials are reminding people to stay prepared for severe weather and disasters.
September is National Preparedness Month.
The Illinois Department of Emergency Management says each home should be equipped with an emergency supply kit containing water, non-perishable food, a weather radio, flashlight and extra batteries. Officials say it's also wise to have a family communication plan, which includes a place for family members to meet after a disaster if they're separated.
State officials are urging people to check out a state website for more tips. The address is: www.ready.illinois.gov .
