Unofficial recount results confirms Koenen victory
A recount has confirmed that Glenn Koenen won a Democratic primary for a suburban St. Louis congressional seat and will face Republican Ann Wagner in the November election.
Unofficial results of the recount released Thursday by the secretary of state's office show Koenen's margin of victory declined by two votes compared to the original count from the August 7th primary. But he still finished 46 votes ahead of Harold Whitfield in a four-person primary that drew a total of nearly 28,000 votes.
Wagner and Koenen are competing to succeed Republican Todd Akin in Missouri's 2nd Congressional District. Instead of seeking re-election, Akin is challenging Democratic U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill.
Missouri Chamber of Commerce endorses Spence
The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry has endorsed Republican Dave Spence in his challenge of Democratic Governor Jay Nixon. The chamber's political committee announced its endorsement Thursday. It cited Spence's business experience and his support for two chamber priorities - new limits on liability lawsuits, and changes to the workers' compensation system.
Since it began making endorsements in 1992, the chamber has never backed a Democratic gubernatorial candidate.
The endorsement was publicized a day after lawmakers failed to override Nixon's veto of a bill that would have retroactively reinstated local taxes on vehicles bought out of state or from individuals. The chamber and Spence both had supported the bill as a way to help Missouri vehicle dealers. But the chamber said its endorsement was unrelated to the veto session.
Home of St. Louis rock legend robbed
Three men are jailed and accused of stealing an electric guitar and other items from the suburban St. Louis home of rock 'n' roll legend Chuck Berry.
The St. Charles County Sheriff's Department says power washers and dozens of used car batteries were also taken, along with part of a fence. Officials say it isn't clear when the items were taken or if they were all taken at once. Deputies say the stolen items have not yet been recovered. Formal charges have not been filed.
Berry is one of rock's pioneers with early hits that include "Roll Over Beethoven," "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Johnny B. Goode." The 85-year-old singer still performs monthly.
