The Missouri Highway Patrol confirms that one driver is dead and another injured in the multi-vehicle crash on I-44 near Six Flags St. Louis. The accident occurred in dense fog.
The accident happened about 5 a.m. this morning and closed the westbound lanes of I-44.
Sgt. Al Nothum of the Missouri State Highway Patrol says a tractor-trailer driver swerved to avoid a car that had become disabled in the middle of the roadway, and clipped the rear of the car. The semi overturned, killing the driver, whose name was not immediately released. It wasn't immediately clear if the fog was a factor in the wreck.
The driver of the disabled car was also hurt and taken to a hospital.
Traffic backed up for miles after the accident that closed all westbound lanes for hours.
