Charter Communications announced Tuesday that it will move its corporate headquarters from Town and Country to Stamford, Connecticut.
The move was motivated by a financial incentive package from Connecticut that could total up to $8.5 million by 2016.
The details of the financial package were released at a press conference in Stamford Tuesday afternoon.
St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley said representatives for the company never reached out to local officials for a counter offer.
“But I’m happy to report that more than 2,000 jobs will stay here in Missouri, in St. Louis County," Dooley said. "And also, my understanding is that there’s an opportunity for us to get an additional 200 jobs.”
Dooley said the move isn’t a statement on the workforce in St. Louis County or the region as a whole.

Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy's office is confirming Charter Communications Inc. is relocating its corporate headquarters from St. Louis to Stamford.
Details of the deal between Charter and the state of Connecticut will be unveiled at a news conference planned for today in Stamford. Malloy's office said the move is expected to create 200 jobs.
The project is part of the governor's "First Five" initiative, which offers incentives to companies looking to expand in the state or move there.
Charter is the fourth-largest cable operator in the U.S. According to the company's website, Charter provides video, high-speed Internet and telephone services to approximately 5.2 million residential and business customers in 25 states.
The Stamford Advocate reports that Charter will join UBS Financial Services and Harmon International in a 15-story high-rise on Atlantic Street.
