Former St. Louis Police Sergeant Gets Almost Five Years In Drug Case

A former St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department sergeant whose responsibilities included conducting investigations into the distribution of illegal drugs has been sentenced to 57 months in prison for running his own drug ring - that's almost five years for those of you doing the math.

Larry J. Davis admitted in April that between October 2010 and January 2012, he would go to the branches of package delivery companies like FedEx and UPS and seize packages he suspected contained marijuana. But those packages never became evidence. Instead, Davis to them to his house on Eichelberger, or to his brother Linus' house in South County, and sold the product for his own personal gain - approximately 60 to 80 kilograms in all.

Linus Davis pleaded guilty in March, and is scheduled to be released from the federal penitentiary in Marion, Ill. in July. Larry Davis resigned from the SLMPD after he was indicted in January. The brothers have agreed to forfeit the two vehicles they used in the scheme, as well as cash seized during a search of Larry Davis's residence.

"The fact that Davis was a police officer and was willing to conduct this criminal activity is extremely disappointing," Dean C. Bryant, the Special Agent in Charge of the St. Louis division of the FBI said in a statement. "However, the greatest damage done in this case is how he undermined the public's trust in law enforcement."
