A Belleville, Ill. man arrested as part of Attorney General Lisa Madigan's crackdown on child pornography last year will spend more than a dozen years in federal prison for his crimes.
Garold Lee Semelka, 62, pleaded guilty in June to receiving and possessing child pornography. His computer contained more than 600 images or videos of minors engaging in sexually explicit activity.
"The law requires that we prove that we prove that these images are of actual children, not computer-generated fiction," said U.S. Attorney Stephen Wiggington in a statement. "I am happy to report to see that a person who victimized real children will no longer be able to do so."
In addition to his prison sentence, Semelka will be on supervised release for 10 years following his release. He must also pay a fine of $400 and an additional special assessment.
