St. Louis police say the gun used in last week’s shooting at a downtown business college was stolen during a 2011 burglary in St. Louis County.
St. Louis police said Monday that a St. John resident with no criminal history purchased the Kel-Tec 9 handgun from a gun company on March 2, 2011. The gun was one of four taken during a November 2011 robbery, and the second from that robbery to be recovered. It was not immediately clear how the suspected shooter, Sean Johnson, got possession of the gun.
Johnson is charged with first degree assault for allegedly shooting Stevens Institute of Business and Arts financial aid director Greg Elsenrath during an argument last week. Johnson then shot himself. Both men survived.
The school reopens today.
