Months of detours and lane closures on the Blanchette Bridge could be coming to an end as early as next week.
Starting Monday night, crews will close one east-bound lane between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. through the workweek. Crews will then close up to two eastbound lanes across the bridge over the weekend.
Barring an unforeseen delay, Missouri Department of Transportation Spokeswoman Linda Wilson-Horn says they hope have the things back to normal on Monday next week.
“Our intention is on Monday, Aug. 26 when everybody gets up to go to work in the morning those two bridges should be back to where they were before we closed them in November,” Wilson-Horn says. “That is two months ahead of our schedule. Our original deadline was to get traffic back on the two bridges by Nov. 1 of this year, so, we’re two months early.”
Wilson-Horn says because the final step is painting stripes on the roadway, any rain this coming weekend could delay the project’s completion.
She also says construction on the so-called lid connecting downtown St. Louis to the Arch is on track to begin at the end of next month.
