The recent events of the past several weeks have shaped our entire region in a number of different ways. From channeling outrage to questioning the role of local government and police, St. Louis Public Radio has been providing a forum for these vital and important discussions. St. Louis Public Radio and NPR's Michel Martin hosted a panel discussion called, “Ferguson and Beyond: A Community Discussion,” on the evening of August 28 at Wellspring Church in Ferguson.
The next morning, Michel Martin reviewed and discussed the evening, as well as the tragic events that had transpired in the past days and weeks, to Cornerstone Members and other guests at a breakfast hosted by St. Louis Public Radio and the Women's Group on Race Relations in St. Louis in STLPR’s Community Room.
Addressing a standing-room only gathering, Martin and STLPR Editor Margie Freivogel and reporter Steph Lecci spoke about the at-times heated forum the night before, as well as how St. Louis Public Radio covered the events as they were happening on the ground in Ferguson.
The gathering also featured a number of attendees from the Women’s Group on Race Relations. The group regularly meets to discuss and advocate for racial equality, and has been very active since the tragic events in Ferguson in August. Pastor F. Willis Johnson from Wellspring Church was also in attendance to hear the discussion and reflection of the gathering the night before.
