St. Louis Public Radio is known for bringing you beautiful classical music in the evening and around the clock on 90.7-3. But some of our board members are a little more hands on in an effort to deliver those sonorous presentations.
STLPR board member Larry Katzenstein conducted the St. Louis Symphony on Saturday May 21st at Powell Hall. Immediately prior to the event, Cornerstone Society Members were invited to a pre-concert reception to meet and mingle, among them Robert Peterson and Mary Edwards, the host and engineer of St. Louis Public Radio’s live broadcasts of the Symphony.
Larry, who is an attorney at Thompson-Coburn, LLP and previously served on the St. Louis Beacon’s board prior to the merger with STLPR, has been guest conducting – after very generous annual donations – private concerts for the Symphony for 21 years now.
An avid fan of classical music, Larry has perfect pitch and has received instruction from previous St. Louis Symphony conductors. Not only is the St. Louis Symphony culturally significant to him, but personally as well – Larry met his wife Cheryl on a blind date arranged by a Symphony musician 25 years ago!
Larry conducted a cello concerto by Camille Saint-Saëns, which featured a solo performed by award-winning cellist Bjorn Ranheim, as well as Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations.
The Cornerstone Society regularly schedules such cultural events throughout the community and invites you to join them! For more information about joining the Cornerstone Society, contact Jeff Bewley at jbewley@stlpublicradio.org.
