The unmistakable egg-shaped mobile recording studio of StoryCorps spent a month parked in St. Louis last fall recording the conversations of dozens of St. Louisans. Among those whose memories were captured were mother and daughter Colleen Starkloff and Meaghan Breitanstein, who came together to remember Max Starkloff, a husband, father, and leader in the disability rights movement. Their story was broadcast on NPR this month.
StoryCorps is an organization whose mission is to “record, preserve, and share the stories of Americans from all backgrounds and beliefs.” All StoryCorps recordings are preserved at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. Weekly StoryCorps segments are aired on St. Louis Public Radio each Friday during Morning Edition.
