Shannon Lischwe has been a listener of St. Louis Public Radio since childhood and an employee for just over a year. “I had the stereotypical experience of growing up hating listening to public radio in the back seat of my parents’ car, to absolutely loving it as I became a grown up.” For the past couple of months, she’s been the STLPR Marketing, Events, and Outreach Coordinator, spearheading events and connecting with listeners and members. Get to know her, some of her favorite events, and the Young Friends of St. Louis Public Radio.
STLPR: What’s your favorite program?
Shannon: This American Life and locally I really enjoy our podcast, “We Live Here.” I try to take any opportunity I can to learn from others and their experiences and both of these programs allow me to do so.
STLPR: What is your role as Market, Events and Outreach Coordinator?
Shannon: Our goal as a department is to find as many ways as possible for our listeners and members to interact with the station. This means that my duties range from sending out emails informing folks of new programming to creating events in which the listeners can meet and mingle with the station and news room staff directly.
STLPR: What’s your favorite event so far?
Shannon: Easy. Taco-rita. Who doesn’t love tacos and margaritas? I mean, come on. But I think our upcoming Halloween Movie Night, on Oct. 30 in the Public Media Commons, may just dethrone Taco-Rita. 2 movies, a tarot card reader, and a signature drink by The Fortune Teller Bar. It should be a great night.
STLPR: What is the Young Friends group and how can people get involved?
Shannon: The Young Friends group is an active group of young public radio listeners dedicated to furthering St. Louis Public Radio as a trusted source of information and entertainment that opens minds and nourishes the spirit. We love to have our young listeners and members helping out at events and station booths and acting as representative of the station. The young friends group is made up of around 3,000 members and is led by the Young Friends Leadership Council. We are accepting applications for the Council now!
