Behind-the-scenes with St. Louis’ Hindu Temple Choir in studio Friday

A group of performers from the Hindu Temple of St. Louis joined Batya Abramson-Goldstein, the executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council, on “Cityscape” this Friday as part of preparations for this Sunday’s fifth annual Arts and Faith interfaith concert at the Sheldon, which promotes peace and unity in the region and around the world.

We had the pleasure to hear (and mic up!) nine of the Hindu Temple Choir performers live on air. The choir usually performs at full capacity with 18 members.

A group of nine performers from the Hindu Temple of St. Louis are in studio to perform live on #Cityscape for a segment on 'Arts and Faith.' Tune in at noon! A video posted by St. Louis Public Radio (@stlpublicradio) on Sep 18, 2015 at 9:46am PDT

They came with two drummers, a keyboardist, five singers and a tanpura, a long-necked string instrument you'll recognize from popular Indian music. Check out the slideshow above to see behind-the-scenes photos from their visit to the studio on Friday.

You can hear both songs that the group performed on air right here:

The Arts and Faith concert will bring together performers from the Catholic Hispanic ensemble, the Sikh Study Circle, Courage Counts, the Mormon Youth Chorus, and others to bring together people from many different backgrounds and religions in unity.

Famed soprano Christine Brewer and jazz and soul vocalist Brian Owens are headlining the concert, which aims to gather people together for reflection and a hope for peace. Rev. Starsky Wilson, President and CEO of the Deaconess Foundation and co-chair of the Ferguson Commission, will give openings remarks.
