Paul McCartney will return to St. Louis this summer, 50 years after the Beatles’ first rocked old Busch Stadium.

The St. Louis Cardinals are planning host McCartney’s One on One tour Aug. 13 in the new Busch Stadium.

“We’ve come a long way in those 50 years,” said President Bill DeWitt Jr. during the announcement Wednesday at Ballpark Village across from the stadium downtown.

“I know that Paul has personally felt nostalgic about coming back and so we’re very excited about his connection to this place,” he said.

According to a Cardinals news release, the concert will feature dozens of McCartney’s classic songs with state-of-the-art audio and video technology.

Mayor Francis Slay is a big fan and says he plans to attend. At the news conference Slay indulged the audience in a litany of McCartney and Beatles allusions.

“There will be no more lonely nights when we let him in and listen to what the man said as he tickles the ebony and ivory and we delight as he plays songs such as 'Live and Let Die,' 'Hey Jude' and 'Back in the USSR',” he said.

The three-hour concert is McCartney’s first show in the St. Louis area since 2012 and Busch Stadium’s first concert since 2011.

The Cardinals will be on the road playing the Cubs in Chicago that weekend. Tickets go on sale on April 15 at 10 a.m. on the Cardinals’ website.
