St. Louis Tap Festival Presents 'All That Tap XXII'

After a week of workshops led by professional tap dancers, the St. Louis Tap Festival will present "All That Tap XXII" on Saturday, July 27, 2013.

Among the performers leading workshops and dancing on Saturday are Karen Callaway Williams,  Avi Miller and Ofer Ben. Karen Callaway Williams was the first African American woman to perform with Riverdance and has also performed on Broadway. Avi Miller and Ofer Ben are an Israeli duo, bringing humor everywhere they go and a Middle Eastern flair to tap dancing. They moved to New York from their native Israel to be, as Avi put it, "with the great masters of tap."

Tap is a dance form that originated in the United States with ties back to African and Irish dance. It  evolved out of vaudeville performances and the jazz movement. Ironically, however, tap dance as a genre gets more attention abroad than in the United States, said Randy Miller. Avi Miller agreed, saying that in Europe there are dance studios dedicated solely to tap dance, whereas in the United States it is only one type of dance among many offered at a studio.
