For the second time in two months, St. Louis is focused on fashion. St. Louis Fashion Week is back for its eighth fall season.
The 10-day event is a collection of fashion shows, exhibitions, and fundraisers that brings together both local and national designers to celebrate the best sartorial offerings in the region.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch Fashion Editor Debra Bass says that this is an event that can be appreciated by everyone, not just the style-minded.
“I don’t think you have to be a complete fashionista and live and sleep it," Bass says. "I think part of it is cultural and part of it is the exhibit part of it. But more than that I think it’s important to know that creativity and style happen everywhere. It’s not just New York, it’s not just LA."
“There are lots of people who, either they want to be in this field or [have] siblings or relations who want to be in this field, and I think that having something like this locally kind of gives them the fuel to know that they can still succeed without leaving home,” she says.
Events include an emerging designer contest, a ‘Project Runway’ designer styling night and masquerade ball featuring kid and teen designers.
Last month the city hosted the first-ever Missouri Fashion Week, a similar, yet unaffiliated event.
