On Saturday, November 16, David Robertson conducted the St. Louis Symphony and Chorus and a cast of vocal soloists in a concert version of Benjamin Britten’s “Peter Grimes.” These same forces will reprise that performance in Carnegie Hall on Friday, November 22, the 100th anniversary of the composer’s birth.
Headlining the cast of vocal soloists are tenor Anthony Dean Griffey as Peter Grimes and soprano Susanna Phillips as Ellen Orford. The pair sang the same parts last July in a semi-staged performance of the opera at the Aspen Music Festival.
Griffey and Phillips' first rehearsal with David Robertson and the St. Louis Symphony was Tuesday, November 12. Following that rehearsal, they spoke with St. Louis Symphony External Affairs and Publications Manager Eddie Silva. A portion of that conversation was heard during the intermission of St. Louis Public Radio’s live broadcast of the November 16th concert.
