What's Happening On St. Louis' Birthday Weekend

Cakes – lots of cakes – will be distributed throughout the area. Finding the pieces of public art can be a fun family project.

NOTE: Because of the unloving weather on Valentine's Day, the Burning Love Festival will be held from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 18. The event will still include vendors, entertainment and the Burnin’ Love 25 foot Heart of Fire.

Biggest Birthday Bash | Feb. 14-17 | Missouri History Museum

Opening of 250 in 250

The exhibit looks at 50 people, 50 places, 50 images, 50 moments and 50 objects to provide snapshots of St. Louis. The opening weekend has several special events each day.

Feb. 14

1 – 10 p.m. - Free admission, family activities include the puppet play, “The Tragical Comedie of the French, Spanish, American Ville de Sainte Louis”

Feb. 15

10 a.m.-4 p.m. - Free activities include Horse-drawn carriage rides, hokey pokey movement workshop, music and theater

Feb. 16

11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. – Free programs include descendants of the Blow family discussing their book and the influence the family had on St. Louis.

Feb. 17

10 a.m.-4 p.m. – Free programs include Campbell House director Andrew Hahn talking about St. Louis in the Gilded Age.

Historical Reenactment | Feb. 15 | City Hall

10:30 a.m. – Tableaus will honor cultures that contributed to St. Louis. Les Amis will unveil new street signs that have original French names. An encampment will open at the southern leg of the Arch (through 4 p.m.)

Throughout the year, many events will be sponsored by a variety of groups.

One of the first is the "Reflections of Dred Scott and Peter Blow Descendants." John and Ashton Le Bougeios, coauthors of "The Blows of Yesteryear: An American Saga" will be at the Carondelet Historical Society with Lynne and Sherrie Jackson, descendants of the Scott Family. A dramatization, book signing and discussion will start at 1 p.m. Feb. 15 at the society, 6303 Michigan Ave.
