It’s been one week since St. Louis Public Radio held its first Tiny Desk Concert with Mt. Thelonious. We’re still reeling from all the good times!
We were so pleased with number of entries and the variety of sounds submitted by St. Louis that we decided to take a deeper dive into the submissions. TDC entries could only showcase one song but there’s so much more out there. So here’s an offering of surprises we found while “crate-digging” through the catalogs of the entrants.
Le’ Ponds: Lisa Houdei’s entry as Le’Ponds showcased her skill as an acoustic musician and vocalist. The music was stripped down and straightforward, much like many of the songs she’s released on SoundCloud. However Le’ Ponds has released a couple of electro dance tracks too. They seem to be a lark for the singer-songwriter but they’re still pretty fun.
Josh Brophy: This Alaska native and current St. Louis resident can be found playing piano at Keyper’s Bar on Jefferson Ave. He’s released a couple of EPs over the past few years. The music is super easy-going and might make you feel like you're hanging out on your friend’s porch drinking lemonade while Brophy pokes around on his grandparents’ upright piano and sings about the super chill Saturday he just had.
Cracked Ceilings: This is the new project from Kentucky Knife Fight’s Nate Jones. Cracked Ceilings started as a duo but may have recently added a new vocalist. The music is characterized by loose guitars and crunchy choruses draped over frenetic drums. Also, Jones may have grown a beard since you last saw him.
