Busch Stadium will again play host to an international soccer match this summer.
The St. Louis Cardinals announced Wednesday that Liverpool F.C., from England, will take on the Italian Club A.S. Roma on Monday, August 1, at 7:30 p.m.
Officials touted the news at a press conference Wednesday. Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III said it's a great opportunity to present Busch Stadium and St. Louis as a place for world-class soccer.
“I think that we can really showcase downtown St. Louis in a way that makes all of us proud for having come to downtown, invested in downtown and we’re going to continue to do so with future phases of Ballpark Village,” said DeWitt.
This summer’s game will be the fifth soccer match played at Busch since 2013. In November, the U.S. men’s national team played a World Cup qualifying match there.
Fans will notice that the field layout will be different for this game. That is to protect the pitcher's mound, according to DeWitt.
Tickets for the Liverpool-A.S. Roma match go on sale June 8 at 10 a.m.
