St. Louis health officials will begin offering free COVID-19 vaccines for children as young as 5 this Saturday.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday gave final approval for a lower dose of the Pfizer vaccine to be administered to kids ages 5 to 11, clearing the way for millions of U.S. children to get their shots.
Walgreens and CVS have announced certain locations will begin providing the child-size doses this weekend. More than 200 pharmacies and health care providers in Missouri have pre-ordered vaccine doses for children.
In St. Louis, the Department of Health will work with federally qualified health centers, schools, hospitals and community-based organizations to distribute COVID-19 vaccines to children. St. Louis city officials on Thursday released a list of free vaccination clinics.
Parents and caregivers can bring children to several vaccination sites in St. Louis County, even if they’re not county residents. Making an appointment in advance is encouraged but not required.
Vaccinations will also be available at select sites in St. Charles. Appointments are required for these locations and can be made online or by calling 636-949-1899.
