Jury selection begins today in deputy's trial over two deaths

By AP/KWMU

Columbia, MO – Jury selection begins this (Tuesday) morning for a former Lincoln County sheriff's deputy who faces involuntary manslaughter charges. The charges stem from the deaths two years ago of two men following a traffic stop.

The trial of Nic Forler, 27, of Troy was moved to Columbia.

In October, 2005, Michael Brown, 23, of Troy and driver Tyler Teasley, 22, of Silex were in a pickup truck Forler pulled over. Parked on an inclined subdivision driveway, the truck began to roll back toward Forler, who says he opened fire because he feared for his life.

Other passengers say the truck only rolled because Teasley left the manual transmission in neutral and forgot to put his foot on the brake.
