Metro-Easter gets class ring back, after 40 years

By AP/KWMU

Cahokia, Ill. – Jim Setzer is getting his class ring back after losing it nearly 40 years ago.

The 1968 Cahokia High grad had given his ring to his girlfriend, then lost track of it after the relationship ended and he was sent to Vietnam.

But an archaeological excavation team found the ring in two pieces at an old baseball field in Cahokia and returned it to Setzer this week. The field was near a Catholic church Setzer and his girlfriend had attended.

A librarian at Cahokia High helped look through records to match Setzer's initials on the ring.

Setzer says he was shocked to hear someone found the ring; a jewelry store in Belleville is fixing it for free.
