A roof that opens, 6K additional seats, more in released proposal for Edward Jones Dome

The details of proposals to improve or change the Edward Jones Dome have been kept secret - until today.

Last week, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster said he would release the details of the proposals, in response to an open records request, and he's done so.

A lease agreement with the St. Louis Rams, who play in the Dome, requires the facility to be among the top 25 percent of all stadiums as measured by various criteria.

If not, the Rams could break the lease after the 2014 season and potentially move - and owner Stan Kroenke has been non-committal about keeping the Rams in St. Louis.

Here are the full details of the plan for you to explore.

Some highlights:

  • The Rams' plan calls for a roof panel that would open slightly to allow more natural light. A sketch provided with the plan shows that the roof panel would not retract to expose the entire field but would open enough to allow natural light on game days.
  • The team's proposal does not cite a cost estimate.
  • It also calls for adding about 6,000 seats.

The firm designated on the plans, HKS Sports & Entertainment, also count the new Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles and U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago as venues in their portfolio, among others.

A statement from the Convention and Visitors Commission says that they are "currently reviewing the St. Louis Rams plan to upgrade" the Dome, "with the intention of responding...by the June 1 deadline."

Jeff Rainford, Mayor Francis Slay's chief of staff, told KMOX Radio Monday that the improvements could cost over $700 million. He also said the mayor will urge the CVC to reject the Rams' proposal.
