If you're flying out of St. Louis, you might soon pay more for parking.
On Wednesday, Lambert-St. Louis Airport Commissioners unanimously voted to approve a parking rate increase for most of the lots.
Director of Lambert Airport, RhondhaHamm-Niebruegge says the higher rates are to encourage visitors picking up travelers to use the cell phone lots instead of parking in the garage or circling the pick-up line.
"If they don't want to park in the garage today, or if it's full - they'll circle 5 or 6 or 7 times," Hamm-Niebruegge said. "This (rate increase) will actually alleviate that. They stay in the cell phone lot until the passenger is ready to be picked up."
Lambert airport commissioners estimate the parking rate increase will generate about $1.5 million in revenue each year.
"This is about supply and demand," Hamm-Niebruegge said. "This isn't about 'let's be a big bad airport and charge customers more.' We have a large demand in terminal 2 garage and we need to address that."
The rate increases vary by lot, but generally amounts to a few bucks. The changes will go into effect at the beginning of April.
