Ameren Missouri officials say the utility will invest $135 million in a three-year energy efficiency plan to begin in 2016.
Ameren filed the plan with the Missouri Public Service Commission Monday. The utility said it's expected to provide more than $260 million in customer benefits over 20 years.
Ameren’s director of energy efficiency, Dan Laurent, said the plan also is expected to save about 426,000 megawatt hours.
"That’s equivalent annual use of 33,000 average-size homes on our system, so it’s a very significant amount of savings on behalf of our customers," Laurent said.
The proposal includes 10 programs for both home and business owners including incentives for improving efficiency:
Ameren’s first energy efficiency plan began in 2013 and runs through next year.
The company said so far it’s installed energy efficient equipment in more than 12,000 low income homes and completed 3,000 projects with businesses to reduce energy use.
Laurent said they expect the Missouri Public Service Commission to rule on the proposal by mid-2015.
