MoDOT looking for a few good snow plow drivers in St. Louis

MoDOT

Apparently it's never too early to prepare for winter.

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that it's looking for new drivers in the St. Louis area to help plow snow from roads this winter.  The state agency is currently looking for 26 full-time and 55 seasonal drivers.

"When you start talking about hiring that many people, they have to have a commercial driver’s license to be able to drive a truck, there just aren’t that many people trained (or) available out there," said Mark Croarkin, MoDOT's maintenance engineer for the St. Louis region. "We bring people in, we train them, we get them ready, (and) we have them drive along."

Croarkin said MoDOT has around 200 trucks and employs around 450 people total for winter operations in the St. Louis area.

"When you start backing up all the time it takes to have them trained, to get a commercial driver's license, to get them hired on with the state, you need to start (the process) right now," Croarkin said.
