Kirkwood High School has posted a statement on their website regarding today's events. It reads:
Dr. Havener's Message About Tuesday's Event KHS Parents/Guardians I wanted to give everyone an update on today’s event. As most of you are aware today we delayed school, because of a report of a “possible gunfire and breaking glass noise” early this morning. In cooperation with the Kirkwood Police, U.S. Marshals, and various surrounding police departments, it was found to be a box of 42 inch fluorescent lights that had fallen from a shelf in the Custodial Office. The campus was searched and students and staff where allowed on campus around 8 am. We began the school day at 8:50 with a video announcement informing the students on what had occurred earlier in the morning as well as what the days schedule would be. Students have just finished their second period final exam and are either heading to lunch or 3rd period. I would like to thank all parents, staff, students, and the Kirkwood Police Department for the work this morning to ensure the safety and security of everyone involved is the top priority. Also, a huge thank you to Dierberg’s in Des Peres for graciously hosting our students and staff on a moment’s notice. We will continue with ½ day Final Exam schedules for the remainder of the week. Have a wonderful relaxing break. Thank you
Earlier Update: Officials with the Kirkwood Police Department confirm that the area is safe.
Kirkwood High School was on lockdown Tuesday morning. According to district officials, multiple police agencies investigated.
A statement on the school’s website (which has since been removed) reported that at approximately 6:00 a.m., “police received reports that shots were fired inside KHS.”
At this time, KHS is on a delayed start. Police searched the building and students and teachers reported to the Dierbergs on Manchester Road until police gave the all clear. High school students and staff were expected to receive a phone call when police issued an all clear and when school will begin.
All other Kirkwood School District schools began at the regular scheduled time.
