A federal workplace safety inspectors found Groundworks Contracting of Breese, Illinois, failed to protect workers who were installing storm sewer lines from the risk of trench cave-ins on a least five occasions.

Groundworks Contracting Inc. of Breese, Illinois ignored a city's engineers instruction to use trench cave-in protections, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Briana Morales, currently doctorate student at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and a high school teacher in East St. Louis, is Illinois' 2023 Teacher of the Year.

Metro East residents who have relied on the service will have to find other ways to get to baseball games in St. Louis this season.

The Belle-Clair Fairgrounds started offering booster shots on Tuesday. It will operate three days a week for the next three weeks.

“We strongly encourage appointments. As they become available, we’ll have those posted on our website,” the county’s health department director said.

“The city believes this is another way to protect the health, safety and welfare of local residents and members of the municipal workforce,” the local government said in its announcement.

“We could reach or exceed the highest we’ve ever been in by the second week of September,” Mike McManus said during St. Clair County’s weekly COVID-19 briefing on Wednesday.

Almost all of the severe COVID-19 cases doctors and nurses are treating are people who aren’t vaccinated.
