This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, March 18, 2009 - The man often referred to as "Bush's brain" -- longtime presidential adviser Karl Rove -- offered some encouragement and advice this week to members of the Missouri Roundtable for Life.
In a conference call with Roundtable president Ed Martin, Rove laid out what he saw as the dire consequences for opponents of abortion and embryonic stem-cell research under President Barack Obama. Rove encouraged the group to continue its activism.
Martin also emphasized the Roundtable's commitment to continue its fight against the provisions of Amendment 2, Missouri's constitutional amendment that protects all forms of stem cell research allowed under federal law. That includes certain forms of embryonic stem cell research, including somatic cell nuclear transfer, in which the nucleus of an unfertilized human egg is replaced with the nucleus from another cell.
