The Missouri Senate has passed legislation that would prevent employees from suing co-workers for on-the-job injuries.
The measure also states that some occupational diseases, including those caused by asbestos exposure, would be covered by the state's workers' compensation system.
Sponsoring Sen. Jack Goodmansays the bill will ensure that workers are protected and will bring more certainty to the workers' compensation system.
Critics say the workers compensation system would not justly compensate people suffering from occupational diseases, such as those caused by asbestos exposure.
The Senate passed the bill Thursday by a 29-3 vote. The legislation now goes to the House, where a similar bill was approved last month.
