Roberts brothers' downtown plan for Indigo Hotel dead; buildings for sale

This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, Sept. 3, 2011 - Three downtown St. Louis buildings, currently owned by politically connected businessmen Mike and Steve Roberts, are apparently now up for sale for a combined price of $3.75 million.

The buildings, in the 900 block of Locust Street, had been slated to be rehabbed or demolished as part of the plan to transform the site into the proposed boutique Indigo Hotel.

That project -- apparently now dead -- had appeared to be on hold for some time. The Roberts brothers and their companies have struggled with the fallout of the economic downtown on the real estate industry.

The Landmarks Association of Saint Louis is reporting the buildings' for-sale status on its Facebook site.  A person answering the phone at the number listed said that no information would be available until next Tuesday, after the Labor Day holiday weekend. Calls to the Roberts' business representative were not returned.

According to Landmarks, the buildings are listed at: 917 Locust-$2.1 million; 919 Locust-$1.1 million; 923 Locust-$550,000.
