Mo. House committee approves tax credits for data storage, sporting events

Two bills that would provide incentives for building underground data storage centers and for drawing amateur sporting events to Missouri have cleared a State House committee.

They’re now headed to the House floor.  If they pass there, Majority Floor Leader Tim Jones (R, Eureka) says he thinks they’ll have a fair shot at being passed by the Missouri Senate.

“Those bills were held up last year because they became part of that giant, massive omnibus (bill)," Jones said.  "I’ve never really heard a lot of dissention on those particular items, so I think if the Senate were to choose to take these in bite-size pieces, they might have a different experience.”

The data storage and sporting events tax credit bills could be debated as early as this week.

The House Rules Committee on Monday also passed several other bills, including one that would require the state’s sex offender registry to include citizenship information and require the Highway Patrol to report any non-U.S. citizens on the registry to federal authorities.
