After sending a letter Tuesday in opposition to the installation of a bust of radio broadcaster Rush Limbaugh in the Hall of Famous Missourians, Democrats in the Missouri House of Representatives have taken their opposition a step further.
Today, they've sent another letter to a different recipient - the Office of Administration - asking that the bust not be allowed to be installed "in the Rotunda, or any other location in the Missouri Capitol." The Office of Administration's Division of Facilities Management, the Democrats say in the letter, has "general supervision and control of all public areas of the Capitol."
The letter also argues the legal ability of the speaker to mandate a bust's placement in the Hall, and says having one's bust placed there is "an unofficial honor."
UPDATE:
Gov. Jay Nixon says he is concerned about the process by which Missouri House speakers select people for induction into the Hall of Famous Missourians.
Nixon spokesman Scott Holste said the governor has asked his administration commissioner to review the selection process. The inductees are chosen by House speakers, and the busts are financed with private contributions.
